Will: Effie – are you awake?
Effie: No – yes – what time is it?
Will: 5am – sorry, it’s just I can’t sleep – I’ve been thinking about something I need to say to you –
Effie: Oh – that sounds serious.
Will: Well -yes it is. Effie, I think we ought to get married.
Effie: Will – you don’t have to marry me just because of the babies, you know.
Will: Oh Effie – it’s not just because you’re pregnant. I should have asked you before, but I didn’t want you to think I was just asking you because I felt I ought to. I probably should have worded it better – Effie, I love you and I want to be with you forever. Will you marry me?
Effie: Yes, Will – of course I will. Thank you so much for asking me.
Will: Do you want to wait till after the babies are born? I mean, I’d like it to be before, but if you want the dress and everything, maybe you’d rather wait?
Effie: Oh no – can we make it as soon as possible? And just very small and quiet – the registry office – I don’t think I’d like all that fuss, and being the centre of attention.
Will: We can do it anyway you like – as long as you don’t think you’ll look back and feel like you missed out.
Effie: Oh no – I won’t feel that.
Will: Anyway you should get some sleep – we can talk about it all in the morning. Sorry I woke you up, it’s just I was thinking how I was going to ask you – and then I just couldn’t wait! Not very romantic, was it?
Effie: I think it was lovely, Will.
