Ben: I only asked Cherry out because I knew she’s Lizzie’s sister, and I knew Lizzie’s your girlfriend…
Robin: That’s pretty low – poor Cherry.
Ben: Yeah I know. But we’d only been out a couple of times when I realised that I really, really like her – I’m serious about her. She’s smart and funny and I really like being with her.
Robin: She’s nice but she scares me a bit.
Ben: She scares you -! How come?
Robin: Well – she talks a lot, doesn’t she, an’ she talks dead quick, an’ sometimes she’s rattlin’ on so much, I lose track of what’s she’s on about – so I dunno what to say back to her – so I reckon she thinks I’m not all there, like.
Ben: She doesn’t think that!
Ben: She’s just very different to you though, isn’t she? She’s really confident and outgoing and she doesn’t worry about things. You’re a bit –
Robin: A bit what?
Ben: I thought you were going to be different –
Ben: I expected you to be some spoiled brat who thought he was God’s gift, you know? From what they said in the gossip columns –
Robin: Is that what people thought of me..?
Ben: Oh – well – I mean, not everybody…but that’s what its like, isn’t it, when you’re famous? People read little bits here and there, and build up their own picture, when they don’t know the real person. You must know how it works.
Robin: I’m not really sure as I do…I think I’ve been protected from a lotta stuff…
Ben: Hey, come on, don’t take it to heart! You know, you seem way too thin-skinned to be in that line of business.
Ben: But you see, that’s why you should think about telling your side of the story.
Robin: Ah well, no point tellin’ it to YOU, is there? Seein’ as how you said you’re not a journalist…
Ben: Okay, well here’s the truth – my dad’s family owns the paper. I was doing a degree in journalism and I’d been promised a job when I’d got the degree, but I got kicked off the course.
Ben: My dad was so pissed off at me…actually he still is.
Robin: How come you got kicked out, what did you do?
Ben: It was more like what I DIDN’T do – too much socializing and not enough work.
Ben: Anyway I still got a job on the paper, but I’ve had to start right at the bottom. I’m doing a stretch on every department, and if I’m lucky I get given a story about a missing cat once in a while.
Robin: Well…probably that’s good, isn’t it, to learn the business inside out, like?
Ben: I suppose so. I thought if I could get a story out of you, it’d give me a few brownie points.
Ben: And like I say, it could be good for you too, couldn’t it? I mean, there’s lots of speculation about why the band broke up – you could tell your side of the story.
Robin: I don’t want to. It’s no-one’s business.
Ben: Yeah but people want to know the truth and you could set things straight – there’s rumours that it was because you –
Robin: Ben – don’t.
Robin: There’s things that I did that hurt people, an’ I don’t want te bring it all up an’ hurt them all over again, so please, just leave it.
