Will: You want to stick to a fast walk, then? It’s been a few weeks since we ran, and I know you haven’t been feeling well, so you should take it easy to start with.
Rowan: Sure you don’t mind? I don’t like to hold you back.
Will: No problem – you’ll soon get back up to full speed anyway.
Rowan: Well…actually, I think that I’m going to have to take things a bit easier…
Will: Rowan, there’s nothing seriously wrong, is there? I know you haven’t been yourself for a few weeks now.
Rowan: No, it’s just – well – I’ve been tired. Bit of morning sickness and all that.
Will: Seriously?
Rowan: Seriously! Jake and I are having a baby. I wasn’t going to say for a couple more weeks, but we had our first scan on Friday, and everything seems to be ok, so I think we’ll start telling everyone now. So, there you go – you’re going to be Uncle Will in about six months’ time.
Will: Rowan, I don’t think there’s anything you could have told me that would have surprised me more! That’s great news, though. Does Mum know?
Rowan: Yeah, and Effie knows – well, I told Effie and Sadie first, even before I told Jake. But I wanted to tell you next. I think Jake was kind of nervous about telling you, so I thought I might as well say it while we’re on our own.
Will: Why’s he nervous? Does he think I’m going to do a protective big brother number on him?
Rowan: I think so – and he’s practically shitting himself over telling Dad!
Will: Dad will be thrilled. He’s really glad that you’re settled and happy with Jake, he really likes him – well, everyone does, he’s just one of the family now.
Rowan: It means such a lot to Jake, being part of our family.
Rowan: And now we’re going to have our own little family, and that means the world to him.
