Robin: A games evenin’?
Lizzie: Yes – what do you think?
Robin: Ah well – I dunno.
Robin: I hope that’s okay, Lizzie, I might’ve got a bit mixed up, like, with the teaspoons and tablespoons in the recipe, so tell me if you don’t like it an’ I’ll get us a takeaway, alright?
Lizzie: Well, its smells good, anyway! So – the games evening…
Robin: I’m not much good at stuff like that. What kind of games? What if it’s word games, where you have to write stuff down an’ all that?
Lizzie: Tom says Sadie wanted to know what kind of games you like, so that she knows you’ll have a good time. They’ve got a Wii – that would be okay, wouldn’t it? You like that sort of thing, you play at our house.
Robin: Aye, I suppose. Who’s goin’? Is it loads of people?
Lizzie: I’m not sure, I don’t think so, but you’ll know nearly everyone. You’ll like Sadie, she’s completely mad but she’s lovely.
Robin: Liz, when’s there’s loads of people, an’ everyone’s talkin’ at once, I can’t keep up, I lose track of what everyone’s sayin’. An’ then I end up just lookin’ like an idiot.
Lizzie: Oh, Robin! I think it will just be a nice relaxed evening, it’s not going to be a big noisy party or anything.
Robin: Well, I still don’t know as I would like it very much.
Lizzie: Sadie and Dan just want to do something nice for you – they don’t have to bother, you know. In fact I might as well tell them to forget it. You’re being horrible this evening, you’ve been grouchy since I got here. I don’t know why you bothered asking me over.
Robin: I know, I’m sorry, I – I phoned me mam this morning, Liz.
Lizzie: Oh, right. And how did it go this time…?
Robin: It was okay… a lot better than it has been. An’ she put Freddie on the phone so that was nice. He was really excited, chattin’ away…
Lizzie: Oh Robin! You miss him.
Robin: I want te go back an’ see them all – but I don’t want all the pressure again, I don’t want all the hassle about work an’ stuff, I just want to see them, an’ for everythin’ to be okay –
Lizzie: Well, maybe it will be – you’ve been away for several months now, they must know you’re serious about wanting a break.
Robin: Oh – I dunno, Liz…I dunno.
Lizzie: Just go for a weekend. That’s not so long, is it, to start with?
Robin: Yeah – an’ if it was all okay, I could go for longer next time, couldn’t I?
Lizzie: Or you could invite them to visit you – wouldn’t they like to see where you’re living?
Robin: Ah, maybe…there’s no room to put them up here though, they’d have te stay in a hotel. An’ it’s a long way for them to travel with little Freddie – it’s easier for me to go there.
Lizzie: Besides, if you go to them, you can always come home if it gets too much. Robin, I could come with you, if it would help..?
Robin: Ah Lizzie, I’m really tempted to say yes – but I think I need to do it on me own.
