Cherry: …so anyway, she got the white one and I got the pink one, but I really think the pink one was much nicer – Lizzie, are you listening?
Lizzie: Oh – sorry, Cherry, I have to admit I wasn’t.
Cherry: I bet you’re thinking about your reclusive rock star again, aren’t you?
Lizzie: He’s not MY rock star!
Cherry: But you would like him to be! Have you seen any more of him?
Lizzie: Not since I asked him to come to lunch with us that day, and Tom hasn’t seen him either. That was a week ago. I wish he’d have come to lunch with us – he seems so alone.
Cherry: I don’t know how you can tell after a couple of two minute conversations. Lizzie – I know you really liked him, but I don’t know that you’re in with a chance.
Lizzie: Oh honestly! I realise that. I suppose he’s used to dating models and actresses and what have you. He might have a girlfriend anyway; I mean, I don’t know because I don’t read all that stuff in those magazines. You’re more likely to know than me!
Cherry: Oh Lizzie! What I’m trying to say is, I don’t think he’s into girls. There’s been the odd rumour, and he never really seems to have had a girlfriend. I’ve been checking him out on the internet on your behalf.
Lizzie: Well, thanks but don’t bother! You don’t know what’s true on the internet. Anyway it really doesn’t matter, does it, because I would just like to be his friend.
Cherry: Oh my god – I bet that’s why he keeps his distance – he probably thinks Tom’s trying to chat him up! That all makes sense now…anyone who thought Tom fancied them would want to shut themselves away from the world, wouldn’t they?
Lizzie: Oh you are just HORRIBLE! Poor Tom! Robin KNOWS that Niamh is Tom’s girlfriend anyway, and don’t forget, Niamh asked Tom out, he didn’t have to chase her!
Cherry: Well, Niamh may be my best friend, but I did always think there was something odd about her…
Lizzie: Can you just shut up please because I would like to go to sleep now.
