When Niamh was very young, if she was upset about anything she would get into Effie’s bed for a hug. Then Effie would get her a glass of milk and a chocolate digestive.
Niamh thinks that now she and Effie should have milk and biscuits in bed as a celebration! Her plan to live with Daniel has gone slightly pear-shaped as he is away filming, but Will has asked her to stay at the cottage for now. With the twins due any time, he is glad that Niamh is around to keep Effie company when he’s at work.
Effie hopes Niamh won’t be bored – she’s not really up to doing anything much right now. Maybe she should see if Sadie would like to take her shopping, she thinks they will get on well. But Niamh wants to spend time with Effie, hearing all about the past year – it is much better catching up face to face than on the phone, and she wants to hear all about the wedding.
Effie and Will haven’t put all their wedding photos – or any of their other photos! – in an album yet. Niamh wants to see all the photos of Effie and her friends, she has heard so much about them.
Niamh can’t believe how much Effie’s life has changed over such a short time. Last time she came to visit, she was going through a very bad patch and was very unhappy. But she can see how everything is different now and she’s so pleased for her sister.
So – who’s this lad with the sandy hair? Is that Tom? He looks – nice! She would like to meet him. Effie promises that Niamh will meet all her friends before long.
Niamh is determined she will make Effie proud of her. She will get a job for now and then maybe go to college in the autumn. And she will help Effie and Will all she can with the twins, Effie looked after her so much when she was a little girl and she wants to repay her now.
Effie is just pleased that Niamh is here.
