On his way out to walk Haggis, Will has let in Rowan and Sadie, brandishing bouquets. In true Rowan-and Sadie style, they have been unable to agree what type of flowers to get for Effie, so rather than compromise, they have each bought what they liked!
Effie is really pleased to see them; she wants to show off her babies to her best friends.
One thing they both agree on – the twins are beautiful. Sadie wants to know if she can be an honorary auntie, even though the girls have two real aunties.
Of course she can!
Sadie can’t wait to have a cuddle, she loves babies. Rowan is not generally so keen, but these two are special because they are Effie and Will’s babies.
They are amused by how different the twins are!
Niamh enters a little hesitantly – she doesn’t want to interrupt, but she came to see if anyone wants a cup of tea, and shall she put the flowers in water?
The girls all want her to join them for a chat.
Niamh knows Rowan because she has been friends with Effie for such a long time, although she hasn’t seen her for years. Rowan is something of a hero in Niamh’s eyes, having once called Niamh’s mum a selfish cow to her face!
She hasn’t met Sadie before, but they hit it off immediately. Before long, they are planning to hit the shops! Effie is pleased, she was sure they would get on.
Sadie suspects that Effie would like a little time alone with Rowan, so she and Niamh disappear off to the kitchen to sort out the flowers and make tea.
Rowan’s friendship is very special to Effie. Although they are the same age, she looks on Rowan as an older sister. Rowan has been at her side through some difficult times, and it’s good to be able to share the happy times too.
When Sadie and Rowan leave, they ask Niamh if she would like to come back with them for a pizza. They have a whole pile of old photos of Effie that they think she would like to see! Niamh happily accepts, pleased that she is getting to know Effie’s friends. Although they love having Niamh around, Will and Effie are pleased to have some time on their own with the twins.
Effie is happy that they can hold each other so closely again; it’s something she has really missed!
