Will: No it’s just a bug – one of those 24 hour things I expect…yes of course I’ll look after her!…yeah, come round this evening if you like, I’m sure she’ll be feeling better…bye then!
Effie: Thanks for phoning them, Will – I’m no good at lying. But I really don’t feel up to it this morning.
Will: Well it wasn’t really lying, just bending the truth a bit.
Effie: I can’t wait to tell them about the baby – I hate keeping secrets from them. But I just want to know everything’s okay first.
Will: Only a couple more weeks till your scan – and just think how exciting it will be when you tell them!
Effie: They’re going to be so surprised, aren’t they?
Will: Nearly as surprised as we were!
Effie: It’s ten weeks today, Will…we’re a quarter of the way there already…
Rowan: That was Will – Effie’s not coming shopping with us today, he says she’s feeling under the weather.
Sadie: It could be morning sickness!
Rowan: Maybe! I thought she looked a bit off colour yesterday when I popped in the florist’s.
Sadie: She’s definitely put a little weight on, hasn’t she? But that could just be because she’s so much happier now she’s with Will, she’s not nervy all the time.
Rowan: Well – if she IS pregnant, she won’t want to tell us too early…what stage do you get sick at anyway?
Sadie: Rowan, how would I know? You’re the nurse! She didn’t even get as far as feeling sick last time, did she? I hope that’s a good sign, you know, that things are going alright.
Rowan: Anyway we don’t know anything for certain – and we mustn’t let her know that we suspect anything; we must let her tell us in her own time.
Sadie: Of course! But we must really look after her, without letting her realise…oh you’re going to be the spinster aunt, ha ha!
Rowan: Shut up.
