Rowan: Enjoying yourself, sunshine?
Jake: Yeah…it’s quite relaxing. I like doing stuff like this.
Rowan: You don’t mind; do you, not getting a brand new cot?
Jake: No of course not! It’s great, isn’t it; all the family history and that…maybe there are photos of you sleeping in here?
Rowan: Oh I never thought – yes, there must be! We’ll ask Mum and Dad to dig them out when we go round tonight.
Jake: It’ll be nice, when the baby’s here, looking at old photos and trying to see who he looks like.
Rowan: I never think they look much like anybody to start with, they just look red and squashy…
Rowan: Well, the twins didn’t, they were pink and cute from the start. And they looked like Will and Effie from the start!
Jake: Do you think much about what our baby will look like?
Rowan: I do try and imagine it – it’s hard though. I suppose I think more about what it will feel like to hold him – I find that easier to imagine.
Jake: I think about that too. I wish my mum and dad could have been around to see him…
Rowan: I know. But we’ll make sure he knows all about them, won’t we? We’ll show him all your photos, you can tell him about them all the time. I know it’s not the same…
Jake: It’s just how things are. It’s okay.
Rowan: Jake – I think it would be nice to name the baby after your mum or dad. I mean, if you want to.
Jake: Yes – I’d like that. If you’re sure – ?
Rowan: Well, that’s settled, then! Look, I’ll leave you to your sanding –
Rowan: Come inside, in half an hour, for lunch, okay?
